Shrimp dating technique
In an attempt to better constrain the timing of Variscan HP-HT metamorphism in the SE Bohemian Massif we have dated zoned zircons from a garnet-kyanite granulite of granitic composition from the Dunkelsteiner Wald Massif, Lower Austria, by means of sensitive high-resolution ion microprobe (SHRIMP) technique.
In order to combine isotopic information with crystal growth textures, CL and BSE images were systematically taken from the dated zircons.
This decay process leads to a more balanced nucleus and when the number of protons and neutrons balance, the atom becomes stable.

Some do not change with time and form stable isotopes (i.e.Located in the eastern portion of the Xing’an-Mongolian Orogenic Belt (XMOB), the Xinkailing-Kele complex has previously been considered to be Precambrian metamorphic rocks, mainly according to its relatively high metamorphic grade.Our filed observation, however, revealed that the complex is composed mainly of metamorphic rocks (Kele complex), tectono-schists (“Xinkailing Group”), and granitoids (Xinkailing granitic complex).
Analysis of non-conductive samples is assisted with the optional electron gun for charge neutralisation.
